December 10th – SPECIAL RULE – DECEMBER 16th Special Rule for Canberra Ironman 703 This Special Rule applies to all Age Group competitors in the Ironman 70.3 Canberra. Due to current major road construction in Canberra, a new 5 lap cycle course has been designed to ensure competitors are safe on the cycle leg in this year’s event.  This, combined with the new wave starts, will ensure a fair event as well. The Draft Zone in the Race Competition Rule 3.9(b) will be changed for this event for all Age Group competitors.  The Draft Zone will be 7 metres instead of 12 metres.  That means when passing a forward competitor or motorcycle, the rear competitor is allowed a maximum of 15 seconds to pass through the 7m draft zone.  Failure to observe this may result in a drafting penalty.  This special rule will be strictly enforced.

December 4thIMPORTANT NEWS FOR DECEMBER 16th Hello There and welcome to an important newsletter covering changes to the 2012 Ironman 70.3 Canberra. We hope your training has been good and you are ready to race. As those of you following us on FaceBook, Twitter and via the website will know, on-going road-works have deeply affected the regular bike course in Canberra. With a fair and safe race our paramount goal, we’ve been working with local authorities, and with Triathlon Australia, to make for such a race on the modified bike course, which will cover five laps (last used during the flooding of 2010). So, the 2012 race will take on a different schedule for race morning, with an earlier start time for some, so it’s VERY important to read and digest the following information. The compulsory briefing (NOTE: THIS IS NOW REQUIRED BY LAW IN THE ACT) will now take place as a briefing for each of two start groups on Sunday only. The first is at 5:30am, and will be set for those in Group 1 start waves and will be in the top car-park at Rond Terraces, at the race venue. The second is at 7:00am and will be set in the transition on the grass below the stairs for those starting in Group 2 waves.

Please note the revised Sunday December 16th Schedule as below: 5.30 Briefing Group 1 6.15 Pro wave starts 6.25 M18-24 – 25-29 6.30 M30-34 6.35 M35-39 Then a time gap 7.00 Briefing Group 2 7.45 M40-44 7.50 M45+ 7.55 F18-24 – F25-29 – F45+ 8.00 F30-34 – F35-39 – F40-44 8.10 Teams So we have two briefings, one in the car-park transition and one in the grass terrace transition. Please also note that because of the spread start times we will not be having any body numbering this year so do not lose your bib numbers you’ll get at Registration.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15th: Saturday will feature extended Registration hours, commencing at 10:00am through until 5:00pm. So there’s no need to rush the starting time; unless you want to stay in a queue for a while. (: The briefing, normally held Saturday evening, will now be on Sunday morning; and do note that bike check in WILL parallel registration, IE: 10:00am until 5:00pm Saturday. DO NOTE that there is NO bike check in Sunday morning and none will be allowed.

REGISTRATION REMINDER: A quick reminder to everyone competing in Ironman 70.3 Canberra that you MUST bring your Photo ID, as well as your TA card/license (proof of TA membership) to Saturday registration before bike check in. You will not be allowed to register without both these items, but those participants who have entered as non-members (IE: With a One Day license) will be ID’d at registration. Those who claim TA membership but cannot prove it will be able to race upon payment of $25-00 to purchase a one-race membership. Non-members will not be eligible for TA points to Long Distance teams – all entries may qualify for the Ironman World Champs 70.3.

CHANGE IN IRONMAN 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING SLOTS ALLOCATIONS With the changes to the start times for the 2012 race, there will also be a change to the qualifying slot pick up time. November 15th - Breaking News: due to the ongoing roadworks on Cotter Road we have had to modify the bike course for 2012. The roadworks have heavily impacted a section of Cotter Road and created a dangerous situation for bikes. To ensure a safe course we have worked with the authorities in Canberra and will be using the alternative course that we last used in 2010. This involves using Lady Denman drive to link between Parkes Way and Cotter Rd . Lady Denman joins with Cotter Rd after the section of roadworks. The good and bad news depending on your liking for hills is that this forced change has taken out the major hilly section of the course, which now increases from 3 laps to 5 laps. Details on the revised course will be included in the Race Guide due to be released today and will be available for download from the Athlete’s heading. Please note these changes have been necessary to allow the event to proceed in 2012.
